A FAMILY-RUN vets in Biggin Hill has been handed a top award by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in recognition of its outstanding service.
Darwin Veterinary Centre in Haig Road received the RCVS’s much-coveted "Outstanding Client Service" award - and is only the 38th practice in the UK to hold the title.
The centre was was set up 25 years ago and is run by Sonya Miller-Smith and her husband. The team includes vets Chloe Stone and Keri Holmes, as well as practice staff Louise Neal, Andrea Rogers, Katy Street, Terri Biddle and Sally Bartlett.
Sonya said: “The RCVS asked several hundred of our clients to complete an anonymous online survey about the practice - the results of which were only released to us on the day of inspection.
“It was a little nerve-racking, but we were all hugely touched and appreciative of the kind and complimentary comments our clients had submitted.
“The day of inspection was a little daunting as we knew a Senior RCVS inspector had been assigned to interview all staff and appraise every aspect of the practice. He was with us for several hours, before asking that we all gather together. When we were all present, he stood up and said ‘You are all outstanding!’
“We are all so proud to hold this award - only the 38th issued across the UK. We always strive to care for our clients and their pets, and having that care publicly recognised is very special to us.”
The inspector’s assessment included all aspects of veterinary management including communication, handling of emergency cases and services for those with disabilities.
